Even If The Healing Never Comes

Even If The Healing Never Comes

As I was driving down the road last night, a song came on the radio. I pulled over, grabbed a pen and quickly jotted down these lines, “You are God and you are good. Faithful One. Even if the healing never comes.”

Even if the healing never comes.  When we’re fearful and despairing, we can’t help but question, “What if the healing I’ve begged God for never comes? What if the cancer doesn’t go away? What if I don’t find a job? What if…?”   When children die, when heartaches abound, when evil seems to be winning, our private worlds are shaken. But if we take the time to still our souls before the Lord, we will hear it. At first it is small, almost silent, whisper-like.  But as we continue to listen, it builds in intensity until we can no longer ignore its tone. It is the spirit of God breathing life into the dead bones of our tired and broken spirits. We hear it ringing loud and clear in the words of the Psalmist when he said,

Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you in turmoil within me? Hope in God; for I shall again praise him, my salvation and my God. (Psalm 43:5)

We hear it in the words of Habakkuk when he proclaimed his resolve to keep His eyes, his heart and his emotions fixed on his God,

Though the fig tree should not blossom, nor fruit be on the vines, the produce of the olive fail and the fields yield no food, the flock be cut off from the fold and there be no herd in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the LORD; I will take joy in the God of my salvation. (Habakkuk 3:17,18)

And we hear it in the words of the noble Job who said,

Though he slay me, I will hope in him; yet I will argue my ways to his face. (Job 13:15)

We live in a fallen world. Sin and heartache everywhere abound. And every single day, every single person has a choice. We can focus on the situation or we can focus on and TRUST the One who both gives and who promises to redeem all the heartache, all the pain and every single loss. If God is not good, we have no hope. NONE.  Not even an ounce. But if He is good, and He is, we have every reason TO hope.  Not in the circumstances.   Only fools hope in circumstances. We hope in God. We hope in His character. We hope in His love. We hope in His promises. And to the heartache we say, “You are not the end. ”

Even if the healing never comes.
